unresolvable shlib if 2 packages with the same name are provided

using hyprland-void and core started packaging several packages present in hyprland void, resulting in multiple packages with the same name. trying to install anything that depends on packages with the same name provided by both repos results in broken, unresolvable shlib and everything failing to install

Sounds more like a packaging issue. If there are shlib issues then you have one package installed that requires a certain shared library that is not provided by your alternative package.

Can't tell you which packages those are without a full log, possibly with --debug.

core provides hyprutils 0.11.0_1; custom repo provides hyprutils 0.7.1_1 (and my current install uses hyprutils 0.10.4_1)

attempting to install hyprland (provided by a custom repo) results in the following after updating the repositories:

hyprland-0.49.0_1: broken, unresolvable shlib `libhyprutils.so.6'

hyprlang-0.6.3_1: broken, unresolvable shlib `libhyprutils.so.6'
hyprpaper-0.7.5_1: broken, unresolvable shlib `libhyprutils.so.6'
xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland-1.3.9_2: broken, unresolvable shlib `libhyprutils.so.6'

after manually building and installing hyprland from https://github.com/Encoded14/void-extra (copying repos, building and then running sudo xbps-install --repository /hostdir/binpkgs/ hyprland) running sudo xbps-install -Su --debug results in the following output:

xbps chooses a package from the first repository that contains it unless bestmatching is enabled in the xbps config, that's probably what's happening here

In the debug log you are updating packages without your custom repository before the official repos, since hyprutils is newer in the official repos, it tries to update to that version, but your installed packages are incompatible with it due to libhyprutils.so.6 not being provided by the updated version.

If you don't want to permanently add your own repository at the top of the repo list so that it will always choose your custom verison, you can use xbps-pkgdb -m to change the mode to either repolock to lock the custom packages to your custom repo or use hold to not update them until you unhold them.
