Personally I use AutoActions (https://github.com/Codectory/AutoActions) to automatically toggle HDR when playing specific games, works well for me. (On a more general note, it's usually a good idea to not clutter up C:\Windows with things not from the OS or drivers... |

I prefer not to use yet another program, so using the built-in Steam launch options does the trick. |

Using Steam's launch options for a game, it is possible to turn HDR off when the game starts, and on again when it exists (or vice versa). Especially handy for games that trigger a bug in Windows HDR where the entire desktop is dimmed or partially dimmed after exiting.
Assuming HDRCmd.exe 'lives' in C:\Tools, the following command can be used:
cmd /c start "" "C:\Tools\HDRCmd.exe" off & %command% & cmd /c start "" "C:\Tools\HDRCmd.exe" onEdit "C:\Tools\HDRCmd.exe" if it can be found in another location.
%command% is what will be used to actually launch the Steam game or program. Launching HDRCmd.exe through a command prompt window before and after the game means it will always run with the desired option, unless the game crashes and cannot normally exit.
