How to update brew?

I was wondering if the way I update brew has changed.

What's the recommended way to update Brew? Do I need to type that git command every time I want to update brew?

% brew update
Error: homebrew-cask is a shallow clone. To `brew update` first run:

I just executed the recommended command, "git -C "/usr/local/Homebrew/Library/Taps/homebrew/homebrew-cask" fetch --unshallow", but I still get the warning any time I install a new package, for example:

% brew install dart-beta

Are you sure you did it for homebrew-core and homebrew-cask?

Oh, you are right, thank you, now I executed both for core and cask, I think it resolved my issue.
