Description
Hello Everyone,
Back in September (#1915), the question was raised about whether DevPod was still being maintained, given the last activity was in April. I reached out and spoke with a spokesperson from DevPod about opening the door to community maintainers to merge pull requests and provide basic life support to keep this project alive and relevant. Unfortunately, their attention is focused on vcluster for now and the foreseeable future, and that's just how things go in business. I understand.
However, based on the lack of engagement from the original developers in this repository and in the Slack channel, it is fairly safe to say they do not have plans at this moment to allocate resources to maintaining this project.
"The team don't have the bandwidth right now to properly review and verify these changes. Because of that, we won't be able to merge this at the moment. However, you’re more than welcome to fork the provider and include your fix as a custom provider if that works for your setup"
That being said, DevPod is one of my go-to tools, and I do not want it to fade into irrelevance. In fact, I think there are more opportunities for growth. I have forked the project and have shipped a number of upgrades and plan to add more:
https://github.com/skevetter/devpod
- Dependency updates
- Rewriting workflows
- Updating tests
- Refactoring for newer dependencies
There is no obligation to use my fork. I am still getting things set up, so it will be a moment before the release is ready and you would be an early adopter. That said, I am willing to review and merge pull requests from anyone interested. I also plan to work through the backlog of pull requests from this repository, though that will take some time.
If there is enough interest in maintaining a community version, I can look into setting up SSL and Apple Developer accounts for software signing. I am happy to work alongside a co-maintainer(s).
