IOS App v2.3.0 "Server is not reachable"

The bug

I've installed Immich on TrueNAS Scale. Works as expected. The Immich IOS App is not able to connect "Server is not reachable"

I've seen in other issues that the local network access is required. Unfortunately this is not being requested by the Immich Ios App. Therefore it is also NOT in 'local network' settings in IOS.

Reproduction steps

1. Installation of the Immich Server on TrueNAS -> https://docs.immich.app/install/truenas

• the server is on 10.0.0.x /24 subnet
• the clients on the WiFi are 10.0.40.x /24 subnet

2. Access via Safari Web Browser works from all clients (iPhone, iPad, macOS)
3. Installation of the iOS App only requested access to notification and photos (not the local network access
4. Reboot (power off/on) of iOS - no change "Server is not reachable"
5. Delete iOS Immich App, Reboot (power off/on) of iOS, new install of the iOS Immich App - no change "Server is not reachable"
6. Delete iOS Immich App, Reboot (power off/on) of iOS, resetting Network Setting in iOS, new install of the iOS Immich App - no change "Server is not reachable"

Access was always possible via the Safari Browser

Access to local network has never been requested by the IOS App. It is also no listed in the Apps with local network access.

Can you post the screenshot of the server url on the mobile app?

The logs on the server show no indication that a client is accessing it. The logs of the Immich IOS app are also empty (debug + log level: shout).

Can you reach the Immich server from your phone browser?

Yes. It works from the browser (Safari) on the iPhone and iPad. It is the App which is not able to connect. I can imagine it is because of the missing app permissions for the local network. The app is not asking for these permissions.

I wonder if you can try to put the server on the same 10.0.40.x/24 subnet as the client

If the server is on the same subnet, it works. Unfortunately that is not an option... as the client access can come from different subnets.

One finding: I've installed the Immich iOS app also on macOS. Here I get the question for accessing the local network. And this works.

So, my question is how to add the permission to access the local network to the iOS App (on an iPhone or iPad)

@pixelchrome in the iOS settings under apps and then immich, you have settings related to "allow access to local network" (could also be just named "local network" or similar)

@LeLunZ that is exactly missing. The language is set to German, but I guess you can see there is nothing to set the local network access.

The mechanism for requesting local network access is automatic when iOS determines that it is communicating with a server on the same network. Unfortunately, there is no manual API request available. I wonder if you can set up another test server on the same subnet to trigger that permission, then try to sign in to the server on a different subnet.

@pixelchrome have testet my immich server (proxmox lxc 10.10.20.x/24), client 10.10.15.x/24, networks are routed via router. app (iphone 16 pro, iOS 26.1) works in local network, same as the edge browser does, also works through ngix proxy manager plus.

could it be somehing localy on our network routing?

my Iphone show "Lokales Network" and "Ort" in Immich settings.

I was able to configure a reverse proxy (nginx). With this it was possible to access Immich via the app.
I was then able to setup the Network Settings of Immich and adding a 'local network' (with the Wifi Config - and the server - here I've added the IP Address 10.0.0.x of the server). During the setup of these settings, IOS/Immich asked for the permission to access the local network. And - tadaaa - it (the access local network) appeared now also in the IOS Settings for the Immich app.

With this workaround, it works for me but I can guess this might create some 'friction'. My impression is that this is more a 'problem' of IOS (as I described above, using the IOS App on macOS works as expected) than a problem of the Immich app.

Do you need some more infos from my side? Otherwise we can close this issue.

We can close this issue. I looked into this a while back to see if we could manually trigger the permission prompt, but it is not possible. Thank you for reporting back
