Failure to install and run on Ubuntu 25.10 (and offer to support maintenance/release for ubuntu)

It's probably well known that it doesn't work on Ubuntu 25 out of the box, but I managed to get it to install and run 100%. I took some notes and have it fresh in my mind, so if it helps, I could try to upgrade the codebase (to python 3 and Ubuntu 25 quirks and bundle a new deb).

3.0.0 (current master) uses python3.
2.61 uses python 2.
Python2 is long dead and use is strongly discouraged in any current distro, and Howdy 2.61 is only going to build if you resurrected it ;-)

Please use current git, folks have gotten it to build & work (and posted here how) on latest Ubuntu LT and KDE neon (based on same) , but it needs some massaging/packaging work so its automagically working. That should in turn work most of the kinks out for Debian/Arch etc.

If you want to install from deb, the main repository still has 2.6.1 for Questing. But the ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/howdy repository already includes the 3.0.0 build for Questing, which I have successfully installed in my system.

Thanks @piledriver914 for the details. Unfortunately the README sends people to download the .deb release which is super old and built for Python 2.
It took me quite a bit to make it work so I'm not sure now if it's worth removing and building locally (I'm tempted to just keep what I have).
A new .deb that builds for python 3 would be great though.
