How do I save the workspace layout etc so that I can use the same way on another pC?

Hi

Is there a way to save the currently open layout with the opened files etc so that I can open the exact same layout on another pc when I opened the same workspace folder? I tried saving workspace but the workspace file doesnt seem to contain anything about the windows layout.

Great question — this is something I’ve struggled with too. The workspace .code-workspace file doesn’t fully capture window layout / editor positions / splits by default, so moving that setup between machines isn’t trivial. But here are a few ideas and workarounds:

1. Use Settings Sync
   VSCodium supports syncing settings, keybindings, extensions, and (partially) UI state via Settings Sync. That can help mirror your setup across machines — though it might not perfectly preserve complex split layouts.

2. Save your layout manually via extensions
   Look for extensions like “Layout Manager” or “Workspace Layouts” that allow you to snapshot your pane / split arrangement and restore it. You can export/import those layouts as JSON and load them on another machine.

3. Workspace-level .vscode metadata hacks
   Sometimes you can store settings or hints in .vscode/settings.json or even custom JSON files in your workspace, and write a small init script or command that positions your splits/files. It’s a bit manual, but predictable.

4. Use window manager tiling or external tools
   If your OS supports tiling window managers or tools like wmctrl, xdotool, etc., you can script the positions of VSCodium windows after startup to mimic your layout.

5. Open the same files in the same order + rely on “open editors”
   Even though layout isn’t preserved, opening the same files (in the same tabs) gives you a head start. Combine that with layout snapshots or manual steps, and you get close.
